SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRADE! Most disgusting attitudes for a company I have ever seen in my life. Broken sockets, mouldy walls, no alcoholic to be consumed on the premises yet the long-term stayers consistently drink in the dorms. Quite positive they also host illegal workers to stay there. The manager is dirty and allows her fat cat to climb up the tables when people are eating. They refuse entry to anyone who they don't like the look of. So if you didn't have a shower that day, go somewhere else to save time. Unhygienic and a safety hazard for the public. I will be contacting all third party sites which advertise this "business" to take it down .The pictures I have accumulated should be a deterrent for anyone wishing to stay here.
Cons: Hard beds, lack of "power" in the showers.Pros: Everything else! The staff is friendly, and accomodating. And flexible. I had booked a bed in the 4 bed-dorm, but been moved to the 6 bed dorm because there were already 3 others in the 4, and only 1 in the 6. That's awesome service: Seeing to the most privacy possible under the circumstances. The included breakfast is also more than acceptable for the price: Plenty of choices of cereals and bread. In conclusion: The only reason I don't give 5 stars, is that the mattresses were hard, meaning that I got up hurting in the morning. But that lasted only a little while after getting up.If I come back to Plymouth, I will stay here again, if possible.
Really nice nook. Karen is very friendly and helpful. It stands out from other hostels as it had this welcoming warmth that felt like you were staying at your grandmother's or your aunt's house. Points for the cat too. It isn't too far from the centre, about 10 minute walk from the shopping arcade and the How, and 15 minutes from the Barbican. This only things I didn't like were the difficult to use showers and the fact that check-in is from 4pm. I arrived in Plymouth at 1pm and had to carry my luggage around with me.
Great friendly and convenient stay. Hostel badly needs some maintenance but overall clean and well provisioned. Breakfast was amazing and staff so helpful. Would use again.
We were a mixed group of 25 from france And the eldest members were in their early 80s so dont think only the young are catered for. We were welcomed and treated like family, Karen, James and Dave were so helpful both during our stay and with the preparation beforehand. The rooms, dorms with bunks, were clean and comfortable and the dining room/ social room was great for us all to be together in the evenings. Breakfast was included in the price and was both plentiful and varied and tea and coffee were available constantly. We opted to have our meals here too and each evening we ate a delicious home cooked meal followed by a dessert for a very reasonable price. Plymouth backpackers is handy for the city centre and sights, transport to other resorts and to Dartmoor and is Very handy for the ferry. The highlight for us though was the excellent welcome that we received and the brilliant customer service, we arrived as strangers and left as friends.
